My Venture Diary — Redefining “Venture”

[EP15] It’s about time to give in and admit that I’m not there yet.

According to Merriam-Webster, venture as a noun has the following meaning:

a: an undertaking involving chance, risk, or danger
especially : a speculative business enterprise
b: a venturesome act

: something (such as money or property) at stake in a speculative venture

(obsolete): destiny, fortune, chance

It’s been four months since I started documenting this journey — time really flies! In the beginning, I chose the word venture because I had learned the difference between a regular venture and a startup. I knew I would probably never build a “startup” in the traditional sense, so I opted for venture instead.

There’s no shame in not creating the newest or coolest product that could rapidly scale into a unicorn, go public, or get acquired by a tech giant — leading to that ever-elusive “happily ever after.”

There’s also no shame in writing about this journey for four months without having an actual, tangible product to show.

Instead, I’ve learned a lot from planning, discussions, and execution — probably more than I ever would have by just reading books or taking another corporate job.

What Have I Really…
